Old-school EBM with heart
With “Herz”, the Italian project Maenia delivers a bloody cool old-school EBM track that grabs me straight away. As I listen, I notice very clear And One influences in the sound. That familiar, driving electronic sound just hits the spot perfectly. Vocally, the track also reminds me a bit of Rebel Empire, which gives the whole thing a pleasantly rough edge. Lyrically, the single is certainly no standout, but fortunately the lyrics aren’t quite in the cringe-worthy territory either. All in all, Maenia serve up a nostalgic club banger here that skilfully bridges the gap between classic EBM and modern dark electro. A must-listen!
