M/A/T – Modular

“Everything seems so clear” – M/A/T redefine minimal electro

“Modular” is cold, precisely produced and surprisingly danceable – a combination that I particularly like. M/A/T already perfected this unique mix of mechanical rigour and rhythmic catchiness in earlier tracks such as ‘Das Fundament’ and ‘Replikant’. But for me, ‘Modular’ goes one step further: it's even more minimalistic and clearer.

Musically, the track moves somewhere between Kraftwerk and NDW – but without resorting to retro romanticism. The sounds are modern, but not overproduced. It's this deliberately sparse minimal electro style that convinces me so much. Every synth bass is spot on, the sequences are dominant but never intrusive. The song takes no detours – it goes straight to the heart.

Lyrically, “Modular” also remains detached and abstract. Lines like, “One person / One shadow / A reflection shatters” (translation of the German lyrics) reflect a dystopian coldness that fits perfectly with the sonic aesthetic. Everything seems functional and yet meaningful. For me, this creates an almost meditative atmosphere on the dance floor – clearly structured and yet hypnotic.
