Swedish synth pop dream: Me & Melancholy's ‘Naive’ floats away
Like a feather gliding gently through the air, the new song ‘Naive’ by Me & Melancholy floats through my ears and leaves me in a world of bittersweet synth pop.
With ‘Naive’, the Swedish band has created a masterpiece of deception. At first glance, the track seems so light and carefree that you almost fail to hear how complex it actually is. But it is precisely this combination of apparent simplicity and hidden depth that fascinates me. The synth sounds and effects sound refreshingly new and unique to me – a real rarity in the electronic music scene, which is often characterised by repetition.
I was particularly impressed by the soundscape that Me & Melancholy have created here. It's like wandering through a foggy dream in which memories and reality become blurred. The lyrics perfectly emphasise this feeling when they talk about searching for something real in the midst of change. I think the band has managed to capture this emotional ambivalence musically.

Lyrics of "Me & Melancholy – Naive"
My hands reaching for a memory
Something real, one that i can see
I will hold on to you
I will never let you go
I will hold on to you
The only thing I know is real
Truth, can you handle this for real
Promise me, you must let me know what you feel
The Truth will be hard for you to believe
Once you are enlightened you will feel so naive
Holding you closer
You whisper my name
You say please let me know
Even though nothing will ever by the same
I will hold on to you
I will never let you go
I will hold on to you
The only thing I know is real
