MTTM – Flood

When darkness flows melodically

MTTM - The Dive‘Flood’ by MTTM is a song that impresses me with its subtle development. The beginning seems deliberately restrained, almost minimalist – a solid foundation that puts the focus on the melody. But then the chorus sets in and unfolds the full strength of the track. At this point, “Flood” finally got me.

The song is not your typical dance track, which I personally don't see as a negative thing. For me, it works perfectly as a companion for relaxed moments, whether I'm working or on a quiet drive. The production is clean and sounds pleasant, even though I think that with ‘Flood’ MTTM relies more on proven structures than taking risks. This gives the song a conservative touch, but one that suits it well.

The lyrics draw on a deep symbolism by using rising water as a metaphor for overwhelming life situations. I was particularly touched by the lines "The room becomes an ocean, we're about to suffocate". They create an image that oscillates between melancholy and hope, similar to the mood of the track itself.

Lyrics of "MTTM – Flood"

It came in through the drain
We cannot fight the feeling
We will be dragged away

It's dripping through the ceiling
It flows under the doors
It floods inside the living
It takes over the floor

When we begin to see
The world will ask some more of me
Suddenly we breathe
And dive inside the deep dark seas

The waters will rise up high
But our wills are drained and frayed
The room becomes an ocean
We're about to suffocate

The currents all around me
And furniture adrift
But I hear a voice awaking
The diver deep in me

When we begin to see
The world will ask some more of me
Suddenly we breathe
And dive inside the deep dark seas

When we begin to see
The world will ask some more of me
Suddenly we breathe
And dive inside the deep dark seas

When we begin to see
The world will ask some more of me
Suddenly we breathe
And dive inside the deep dark seas
