A dark wave statement full of energy
From the first few bars of Mutual Shock's "Killing Time", I knew that this track would get me moving. It's a high-energy dark wave song that invites you to dance. This combination of powerful beats and modern synthesiser sounds really stands out for me and unfolds a powerful, danceable sound that is perfect for dark clubs.
The chorus is the centrepiece of the song – almost hypnotic for me. The melody is catchy and stays in your head for a long time without getting old. It's one of those choruses that I find myself singing along to even after the music has faded away. What appeals to me in particular is how the sonic dynamics take the song on and off in waves, so it never gets boring. Each section brings a new facet, and the modern synth sounds give the whole a freshly polished shine that maintains the dark wave character at the same time.
Interestingly, the vocal and stylistic direction of Mutual Shock's "Killing Time" reminds me a bit of the Swedish band ‘Hatif’ – they have a similar melancholic yet powerful tonality that evokes emotions in me.
