Synth pop with an analogue heartbeat
To me, Avro's ‘Psychopathé’ sounds like darkness dissolving into light – a synth pop piece that invents its own shadow world.
The first few seconds seem slightly muffled and melancholic, almost as if the song were covered by a layer of fog. But as soon as the chorus kicks in, everything opens up – the sound becomes brighter, wider, almost cathartic. I like these contrasts, the interplay of gloom and new beginnings. I find the small, almost hidden synth effects that appear again and again and positively break up the flow of listening particularly exciting. This seems deliberately placed and shows that Avro has his production meticulously under control.
The vocals remain clear and distinctly understandable throughout – no gimmicks, just a voice that knows what it wants. Lyrically, ‘Psychopathé’ revolves around desire and memory, fleeting intimacy and the moment before everything fades away.
The handmade music video rounds off the whole thing: strong colours, an analogue film touch that perfectly matches the melancholic mood.

Lyrics of "Avro – Psychopathé"
Silver shadow cast against a wall
This desire
Fleck of dust floating in a light beam
This desire
So dance my love!
It’s only fantasy
Dance my love
Lay your hands on me
Kisses in the dark and faces on a screen
This desire
The reel ends, the velvet curtain falls
On this desire
So dance my love!
It’s only fantasy
Dance my love
Lay your hands on me
Two moons held by gravity
Two eyes speaking blasphemy
Two hands conjure alchemy
Will you remember me?
Will you remember me?
So dance my love!
It’s only fantasy
Dance my love
Lay your hands on me
Will you remember me?
Will you remember me?
