A modern classic for the dance floor
From the first time I listened to Steal The Sun, I was impressed by the danceable energy that the track radiates. Starsign has created an exciting mix of synth pop and EBM that immediately reminded me of classics by VNV Nation and Solitary Experiments. The references to these big names cannot be overheard, and that is by no means a disadvantage – on the contrary, I think it shows how strongly Starsign feels rooted in this scene.
What particularly inspires me is the clever integration of industrial machine noises, which evoke memories of the early works of And One and even the dark sounds of Depeche Mode. These elements give the song a pleasantly nostalgic touch without seeming old-fashioned. For me, this is a real highlight, as the production still manages to sound fresh and contemporary.
Steal the Sun strikes the perfect balance between homage and independence. It would be easy to dismiss the song as a mere ‘copycat’, but it has too much personality for that. The melodies are catchy, the beats are precise and driving – exactly what I want from a club track. The chorus, in particular, has a certain earworm quality that sweeps me away every time.
