With ‘Take My Money’, Zoodrake deliv­ers a song that makes no secret of its atti­tude right from the start: raw elec­tron­ics reign supreme here, ham­mer­ing through the intro with an almost indus­tri­al cool­ness and without frills. It was pre­cisely this very elec­tron­ic sound storm that imme­di­ately drew me in, without drift­ing off into mean­ing­less sound gimmicks.

I find it par­tic­u­larly strik­ing how Hilton Theissen pushes the vocals into an even deep­er register – it fits per­fectly with the uncom­prom­ising mes­sage of the song. The chor­us sticks in my head, even though a march­ing indus­tri­al sound is rarely described as ‘catchy’. It's pre­cisely this mix­ture of harsh­ness and clear chor­us that I find so gripping.

Lyrically, Zoodrake doesn't mince words: the expli­cit lines (‘take my money and fuck off’) under­score the reck­on­ing with super­fi­ci­al­ity and the greed for more and more. It's palp­ably about dis­ap­point­ment and cross­ing bound­ar­ies, about the tire­some game of con­sumer­ist relationships.

For me, ‘Take My Money’ is a power­ful hybrid of indus­tri­al and synth pop, with dir­ect lyr­ics, deep vocals and uncom­prom­ising sounds.
