‘Gazing at the Sea’ by Seelennacht is a per­fect example of how synth pop can sound mel­an­chol­ic but refresh­ing at the same time. Finally, a track without the gui­tar storm that has been so pre­val­ent lately – and that's exactly what does the song an incred­ible amount of good. The focus here is on the soft elec­tron­ic sound­scape and the catchy melod­ies that imme­di­ately cap­tured me.

What I par­tic­u­larly like is how subtly the mel­an­choly has been incor­por­ated into the atmo­sphere of the song. It's not an over­power­ing sad­ness, but rather a thought­ful, intro­spect­ive sound that has a spe­cial effect on me when I really engage with the music. The song invites you to pause and engage with the emo­tions. I think that's reflec­ted in the lyr­ics: "I am here and I gaze at the sea" is more than just a pic­ture for me – it's a moment of self-reflec­tion and hope.
