Seelennacht impresses with subtle synth pop and soulful vocals
‘Gazing at the Sea’ by Seelennacht is a perfect example of how synth pop can sound melancholic but refreshing at the same time. Finally, a track without the guitar storm that has been so prevalent lately – and that's exactly what does the song an incredible amount of good. The focus here is on the soft electronic soundscape and the catchy melodies that immediately captured me.
What I particularly like is how subtly the melancholy has been incorporated into the atmosphere of the song. It's not an overpowering sadness, but rather a thoughtful, introspective sound that has a special effect on me when I really engage with the music. The song invites you to pause and engage with the emotions. I think that's reflected in the lyrics: "I am here and I gaze at the sea" is more than just a picture for me – it's a moment of self-reflection and hope.
The vocals also convince me across the board. They are soulful, clear and perfectly convey the melancholy without drifting into kitsch. Especially the lines "Don't tell me your light is gone" and "You are not alone" give the piece a comforting and at the same time encouraging touch.
All in all, ‘Gazing at the Sea’ is a successful harbinger of the upcoming album for me. It combines the best elements of synth pop with an emotional depth that I always particularly appreciate in Seelennacht.

Lyrics of "Seelennacht – Gazing At The Sea"
I am here and I gaze at the sea
I am here and I'm chasing my dreams
I am left alone
I am left alone
You are here and you gaze at the sea
You are here and you're chasing your dreams
You are left alone
You are left alone
Don't tell me your light is gone
Don't tell me you're the one
Be what you want to be
Gazing at the sea
I am here and I'm gazing at the sea
I am here appreciating what you mean to me
I am not alone
I am not alone
You are here and you're gazing at me
And the stars radiate in your tears
You are not alone
You are not alone
Oh, keep your head up
Oh, keep your head high
Nothing can break you
Nothing can make you cry
Gazing at the sea
Don't tell me, tell me
