Introverted brilliance with guaranteed danceability
What an intro – the first synth arpeggios of Shoegaze Hero immediately grabbed me and catapulted my attention to 200%.
This track by Fotorama from Denmark is a real highlight of current synth pop for me. The mix of danceable beats, catchy melodies, and slightly playful melancholy just works. I especially like how the kick drum immediately releases energy – I don't just want to tap my foot, I have to dance.
What immediately catches my ear are the dark, shimmering guitar lines. They remind me – and not by chance – of classics by The Cure. Songs like "The Walk", "Close To Me" or "Friday I'm In Love" clearly resonate here without sounding like a copy. On the contrary: for me, it's a successful, modern reference to those carefree indie moments, but infused with the digital clarity of synth pop.
I never see you on the floor
cause you like sundays and The Cure
Lyrics of "Shoegaze Hero" by "Fotorama"
I already had the feeling with "Radio Silence" that Fotorama has a sense for fresh, electronic sound. Shoegaze Hero confirms this for me – there's a hell of a lot of potential here.
The only downside: the vocals seem a little overproduced to me. In places, the effects take away the directness I would have liked to hear in the voice. Nevertheless, it fits into the overall picture. The aesthetic of the track remains consistent – rather introverted, restrained, but with depth.
