Blackbook – Eternal Glory

A song like a ritual

To me, ‘Eternal Glory’ sounds like a ceremonial ritual on the dance floor – cool, focused, almost sublime.

The intro alone puts me in a different mood with its almost religious feel – as if a curtain is opening to reveal a ceremony. Then these stuttering effects kick in, immediately setting the song apart from the typical Blackbook sound. I like details like that because they show me that the band is evolving without losing itself. These effects reappear throughout the song – subtle but effective.

For me, ‘Eternal Glory’ definitely has a more experimental approach than Blackbook's other tracks, which are often very catchy. That's exciting because the characteristic sound – that mixture of powerful synths and anthemic arrangements – is still clearly recognisable. Nevertheless, I'll be honest – I personally prefer songs that grab me right away.

That's why I hope the guys leave it at that and don't drift further in the direction of experimentation. Lyrically, the song is somewhere between a motivational speech and a battle cry. Lines like "Show them who you really are" or "The time has come to heed the call" sound to me like an appeal to inner strength – perhaps a little melodramatic, but appropriate in this context.

For me, ‘Eternal Glory’ feels more like an album track than a classic single. It's good to hear that Blackbook have the courage to stray from the hit formula every now and then.
