A view from orbit: Coldstar’s elegant farewell to Earth
With ‘Last Night On Earth’, Coldstar mark their debut on the Town And Tower Records label, and you can immediately hear that their sound has evolved noticeably. Whilst I cannot say whether this leap in quality is down to their own intrinsic growth or whether the label had a hand in it, the result speaks for itself. The Swiss band’s synth pop now sounds significantly smoother, more harmonious and, above all, more varied. For me, it was precisely this lack of variety that was one of the biggest weaknesses of their earlier releases.
Lyrically, we follow the melancholic gaze of an astronaut in orbit as he watches the end of the world. An all-round polished track that leaves you wanting more.

Lyrics of "Coldstar – Last Night On Earth"
The blue marble fades in a rearview of glass
I watch from the silence as centuries pass
The cities are burning like feverish eyes
But I am the ghost in the freezing black skies
It’s the last night on earth, and I’m letting it go
Seven hundred miles above the chaos below
The air in my lungs is synthetic and cold
I’m glad I won't be there when the story is told
The moon is a predator, heavy and slow
Bleaching the stars with a funeral glow
It swallows the light till the cosmos is black
A velvet curtain, and we’re not coming back
The oxygen cycles, a mechanical breath
The ultimate distance from life and from death
The oceans turn grey as the lunar tide creeps
To bury the world while the weary god sleeps
It’s the last night on earth, and I’m letting it go
Seven hundred miles above the chaos below
The air in my lungs is synthetic and cold
I’m glad I won't be there when the story is told
The last night on earth, let the darkness descend
No tears for the soil, no prayers for the end
Just the hum of the ship and the void in my head
The earth is a memory, the fire is dead
