Creux Lies – Frozen

Synth pop with character: why ‘Frozen’ by Creux Lies is a must-hear

Creux Lies - FrozenIf I had to describe the song ‘Frozen’ by Creux Lies, I would say that it feels like a journey back in time to the 80s – but without sounding old-fashioned. Instead, it combines the best of that era with a modern, independent sound. For me, the powerful yet empathetic vocals by Ean Clevenger are clearly the centrepiece and give the track an intensity that can be felt every second. His voice perfectly conveys the emotional depth of the lyrics – lines like "Like a rivers song, like a flowers fall, I fade" in particular resonate with me for a long time.

What makes ‘Frozen’ particularly exciting for me are the clever dynamic changes and the well-placed breaks. Just when I've got used to a particular sound, the song breaks out and surprises me with subtle effects or vocoder elements that fit perfectly without dominating the space. This play with contrasts keeps the track alive and ensures that it doesn't get stale, even after multiple listens.

I was also impressed by the song's mood. It's this mix of emotional heaviness and powerful energy that creates a real rollercoaster of emotions for me. At the same time, ‘Frozen’ seems incredibly well thought out and never overloaded. This song is part of our Spotify playlist ‘New Synth Pop Songs 2024‘. Lyrics of "Creux Lies – Frozen"

The middle of dawn I'm drawn right out the door
The littlest fall, I fall right down to crawl
I wish I'd known

The stars will glow are facedown on the floor
What was soft is grey right down to stone
I wish I'd known

Whispers calling
So sharp, so cold
And promises
Darkness holds, time to bring tonight

I feel your winter turned right
Under your pedestal
I feel your chemicals

Frozen
Frozen
Frozen

Like a rivers song
Like a flowers fall
I fade, I fade
That's how I feel tonight

It's the middle of dawn and your drawn by a hand in the door
It's the littlest fall and we feel right back in the cold
I wish I'd known

Stars will glow but we're now facedown in the floor
What was soft was grey right down to stone
I wish I'd known

Whispers calling
So sharp, so cold
And promises
Darkness holds, time to bring tonight

I feel your winter turned right
Under your pedestal
I feel your chemicals

Tonight, I feel your winter turned right
Under your pedestal
I feel your chemicals

Frozen
Frozen
Frozen
