Synth flames between light and darkness
The song immediately reminded me of Scandroid's heyday – that unmistakable mixture of synth pop and synthwave that moves somewhere between retro futurism and emotional charge. Mark Velvet isn't trying to reinvent the genre – that's not what “Closer” is about. For me, it's a solid production that doesn't hide, but clearly shows where it comes from musically – and what it wants to achieve emotionally.
What particularly catches my ear are the high-pitched vocals. They work very well for the most part, but in some places I would have liked a little more restraint – it's a bit too thick for my taste. Nevertheless, it fits into the overall picture.
Lyrically, “Closer” goes deep – very deep, in fact. For me, the track tells of a transformation through love, of the transition from inner darkness to light. Lines like “The universe has shrunk to the size of our room” don't strike me as cheesy, but honest – almost as if someone were pouring their heart out in the middle of the night.

Lyrics of "Mark Velvet – Closer"
I hear you calling to me
Inside my soul, a flaming spark
I’m slowly stepping into the unknown
Surprisingly, there’s no dark
How much a simple choice can change
I’ve been exposed to the brightest light
You’re holding out your hand
I’m reaching out
From now on
I’ll never be alone
Heart ablaze
You took me away to better days
Only light around me
The spark has turned into a flame
It’s melting our souls together
The closest people we became
Your warmth renounces darkness
All my nightmares are no more
You make me feel so real
I found love
From now on
I’ll never be alone
Heart ablaze
You took me away to better days
And I was blessed from above
To discover you day by day
I’ve never felt so real
Until now
The universe has shrunk
To the size of our room
It’s only you and me
And every second we’re getting closer
