‘Fine’ shows how good falling and freedom can feel
To me, ‘Fine’ sounds like the moment when darkness suddenly starts to dance. The track remains firmly in the dark wave cosmos, but Ductape manage to give it a fresh dynamic. I like that the song has a good tempo – fast enough to get your legs moving without losing the melancholic depth that defines the genre for me.
The synthesizers are used discreetly, almost restrainedly, but that's exactly what gives the song that subtle pressure in the background that creates tension. I think the chorus stands out in particular – harmonious, vibrant and surprisingly warm in contrast to the dark mood. Although ‘Fine’ seems balanced overall, for me the chorus opens up a new window in the soundscape.
Lyrically, I feel that typical Ductape paradox in lines like "At the bottom of the hole, I call mine": pain meets self-acceptance. For me, ‘Fine’ is a tune that is both comforting and driving – dark but open, melancholic but full of movement.

Falling fast
When I lose control
From the highest cloud
To the concrete floor
I can’t run away
From this painful wave
I’m sleeping on a black sheet
Sleeping on a black sheet
Don’t know what’s going on
But I feel fine
For the first time
At the bottom of the hole
(I call mine)
Faded flowers rain on me
Every ache now oh feels so real
Nothing makes sense anymore
As I drift and watch them fall
But I feel fine
For the first time
At the bottom of the hole
(I call mine)
