Local Suicide x Wiener Planquadrat – Der Apfel Fällt Nicht Weit Vom Stamm

Cold elegance meets harmonious balance

Local Suicide x Wiener Planquadrat - Der Apfel Fällt Nicht Weit Vom Stamm (Cover artwork)‘Der Apfel Fällt Nicht Weit Vom Stamm’ by Local Suicide x Wiener Planquadrat immediately grabbed me because it sounds so consistently minimalistic. The track from Germany/Austria moves between synth pop and cold wave. It sounds minimalistic, cool and immediately reminds me of the early pieces by "Susanne Blech". It is precisely this clear, almost strict form that makes it exciting for me. Nothing seems overloaded, every sound is in its place.

The music video reinforces this atmosphere. Visually, it is inspired by the early imagery of "Front 242" and has an unmistakable 80s VHS feel. The images fit the sound perfectly and the integrated lyrics add value to the music video.

Musically, I particularly like the structure. In the first half, the cool synth pop sounds and cold wave vibe carry me away. Towards the end, the song changes significantly. In the last quarter, a harmonious melody sets in, almost heading towards synthwave or classic electro pop. This moment rounds off the track for me and gives it a clear development.

I don't hear any experimentation here, but rather a very conscious decision in favour of a reduced and clear style. That's exactly what I like. For me, the song shows that a minimalist approach can be more expressive than overloaded arrangements.
