Catchy synth pop instead of gothic pathos
I'm really into Seelennacht at the moment, because the project has been creating significantly more catchy synth pop songs lately and, thankfully, does so without any gothic pathos. ‘Grey Apartment Show’ is a prime example of this breath of fresh air from Germany. The song is instantly catchy and danceable, with the chorus in particular easy to sing along to after just a few repeats.
While the artist sings about isolation between grey concrete walls and escape through ‘Soma’, the musical implementation is anything but oppressive. The instrumentation is also interesting here: I don't miss the deliberate absence of metal-like electric guitars, which used to feature in Seelennacht's history. On the contrary, this sound suits the song perfectly and leaves more room for the melodic vocals and the ‘restart on dreaming’. My verdict is therefore clear: this is excellent and please keep it up.

Lyrics of "Seelennacht – Grey Apartment Show"
Grey apartment show
On your mind
You need to take your Soma
Find your lie
And every sense, I know
Is hard to find
But over clouds, you know
There's always light
You gave up on dreaming
And you're living no more
All what you feel
Is grey apartment show
You're taking your Soma
And you're living a lie
Restart on dreaming
It will be alright
Sun apartment show
In the dark
But even then I know
You're faking your laugh
Listening to I don't know
You're listening to the stereo
The pride to which I encourage you
I'm preaching on my own
On my own, my own, my own, my own
Don't stare with your eyes so cold
Don't stare with your eyes
You look at the rain, I know
It'll be alright
Someday you dream again
And say goodbye to harm
Someday you live again
And say goodbye to harm
