‘Daggers’: a genre mix that really hits the spot for me
With ‘Daggers’ by Radical Bicep from the USA, I hear a song that combines the genres of synth pop, synthwave and witch house in a way that I have rarely experienced before. The intro alone draws me in with a typical synthwave beat that underpins the entire track in the background. The melody and deep bass synths give it an unmistakable synth pop character that I really appreciate. The chorus is particularly exciting for me: this is where the witch house flair unfolds, which stands out above all through the special vocals and gives the song its dark touch.
The synthetic electric guitars that are woven in from time to time could have been left out for my taste – they're not a must for me and I think the track would have gained clarity without them. Overall, ‘Daggers’ strikes me as extremely harmonious and accessible. I don't need much time to get used to it and can enjoy the song right away.
