Comasoft – Restless Life

Between longing and self-destruction: Comasoft's dark synth pop hit

Comasoft - Gather At The EndFrom the first time I heard “Restless Life”, it was clear to me that Comasoft had created a synth pop track that strikes me as both powerful and dark – exactly the combination I appreciate so much in this genre. The song is part of the excellent EP “Gather At The End”.

The synthesizers are powerful and drive the song forward with an intensity that immediately grabbed me. I particularly like the warm tone of the vocals, which blend perfectly into the dense soundscape without being drowned out or coming across as too dominant. Every now and then, guitars shimmer through, giving the whole thing a slight electrorock character – a mix that works perfectly for me.

Lyrically, “Restless Life” also reflects this oppressive mood: lines like “Another restless life, another coffin open” hit me right in the heart. For me, the lyrics tell a story of inner turmoil and the desperate attempt to achieve something, even if it means losing yourself in the process – fitting to the band's statement about the corruption of one's own values through exaggerated desires.

I do have one small criticism, though: the vocal effects in the bridge aren't really my thing. They don't bother me that much, but to my taste they seem a little contrived. Nevertheless, this doesn't detract from the overall strong impact of the song for me.

Fun fact: Comasoft was part of the first Electrozombies compilation “Open-Minded And Undead: Volume 1” in 2016. Thank you very much for being part of it!

Lyrics of "Comasoft – Restless Life"

I’m super phobic, and I’m afraid – A place to bury, run and hide
My devotion, a shallow grave – Empty promise, I never made

Contagion, flows all through me – Sweat through the binds that restrain me
Keep pressure on that bleeding – Your voice so faint and receding

Let’s write the third act of this tragedy
Let’s see what lights on fire when we’re away
One candle burning from, your window sill
If two by sea my love, I’d be there still

Another restless life, another coffin open
One more endless night (hold my hand) until the worst is over (until then)

I’m super nervous, my hands shake – Second guessing, when I’m awake
My relation, a cornered stray – Slow maneuver, then back away

The tension freezing my veins – The cold relentless pulsing
My heart slows all but ceasing – How long have you been leaving?

Rewrite the third act of this tragedy
Let’s see what lights on fire when we’re away
One torch left burning on your window sill
If two by sea my love, just lie there still…

Flood my heart, while it fills my lungs
With a faint dye, now I know
All that was yours never was mine
Go on an invent an end that is pure
Pull out the stop on the drain lock the door
As the vanes die, I’m still in
Straight through the heart again.
