‘Sinner Sevenfold’: Freaky Mind's dark synth pop triumph
Freaky Mind finally managed to captivate me with ‘Sinner Sevenfold’ – a dark synth pop hit that exceeds my expectations and shakes me to my very core.
From the first few bars, I feel transported to a world of sound between Aesthetic Perfection and Solar Fake. The Russian band has created a track that skilfully blurs the boundaries between synth pop, industrial and future pop. The dark, tragic mood runs like a red thread through the song and won't let me go.
What particularly impresses me is the successful balance between aggressive parts and harmonious elements. Personally, I find the melodic passages to be the strongest, but I have to admit that the harder sections give the piece a special flavour. The collaboration with Mental Discipline has obviously done the track good – the synergy of the two acts is clearly noticeable.
The only thing I find a bit too much is the calm bridge. I understand that it serves to build up the tension, but for my taste it could have been shorter. Nevertheless, this does not detract from the overall impression of the song, which remains coherent and gripping.
‘Sinner Sevenfold’ marks a turning point in my perception of Freaky Mind. If I had any doubts about the band before, this track has largely dispelled my scepticism. If the duo produce more in this direction in the future, then a little love could develop between us.
