A whimsical journey through neon-lit Babylon
The Australian band Shadow Park whisk us straight away to a neon-coloured Babylon with their latest track, ‘Anything’. I love the classic synth pop sound the band have produced here. The song has that lovely old-school 80s vibe, which generates a lot of appeal thanks to a wonderfully naive touch. Sonically, it immediately reminds me of greats like Cause & Effect, Pseudo Echo or ABC.
Even though the lyrics deal with a lonely march through dilapidated streets and an irrepressible longing for love, musically the song remains a dreamy journey. My only criticism is the electric guitar part, whilst it certainly sounds true to the 80s style, the guitar just isn’t my instrument. Nevertheless, the dreamy chorus is a total winner. A track that’s definitely worth a listen for fans of nostalgic synth pop.

Lyrics of "Shadow Park – Anything"
I walk alone through Babylon
Crumbling streets of stone
Please lead me home
On the horizon I do spy
A perfect silhouette
I can't forget
I'd do anything
Just to live by your side, girl
I'd do anything
Just to fly one last time, girl
I'd do anything for you
Anything
I'm on a mission for your love
Through rain, sleet and snow
Onward I go
I've come to thaw your frozen heart
Your words crystallize
And fall from lips of ice
I'd do anything
Just to live by your side, girl
I'd do anything
Just to fly one last time, girl
I'd do anything for you
Echoing in the darkness of the past
Calling out from behind the tinted glass
Am I chasing the shadow of a dream
Am I a wolf howling into the moonbeams
I'd do anything
Just to live by your side, girl
I'd do anything
Just to fly one last time, girl
I'd do anything for you
Anything
I'd do anything
Let me live by your side, girl
I'd do anything
Help me fly one last time, girl
I'd do anything for you
