Shadow Park – Anything

A whimsical journey through neon-lit Babylon

The Australian band Shadow Park whisk us straight away to a neon-col­oured Babylon with their latest track, ‘Anything’. I love the clas­sic synth pop sound the band have pro­duced here. The song has that lovely old-school 80s vibe, which gen­er­ates a lot of appeal thanks to a won­der­fully naive touch. Sonically, it imme­di­ately reminds me of greats like Cause & Effect, Pseudo Echo or ABC.

Even though the lyr­ics deal with a lonely march through dilap­id­ated streets and an irre­press­ible long­ing for love, music­ally the song remains a dreamy jour­ney. My only cri­ti­cism is the elec­tric gui­tar part, whilst it cer­tainly sounds true to the 80s style, the gui­tar just isn’t my instru­ment. Nevertheless, the dreamy chor­us is a total win­ner. A track that’s def­in­itely worth a listen for fans of nos­tal­gic synth pop.
