Between organ crypt and confessions
With ‘Broken Sins’, Vampire Valentine have delivered a real banger that is absolutely at home on their latest EP, ‘Scarred And Sacred’. Here, the English band explores the darker sides of the human psyche, both musically and lyrically. At the heart of the song is the story of a man buried under the weight of his sins and past deeds, who pleads daily for forgiveness for the salvation of his soul. It’s a lyrical theme that really gripped me from the very first line.
I’m particularly impressed by the instrumental realisation of this inner drama. The track picks up the tempo at a pleasantly brisk pace and immediately invites you to dance, without losing any of its depth. What makes this song so special to me are the eerie organ melodies, which sound as though they’ve sprung straight from a classic horror film. Alongside this, carefully placed synthesiser accents provide striking and clearly audible highlights. Vampire Valentine demonstrate a keen sense of atmosphere here, creating a beautiful, sombre, old-school dark wave sound.

Lyrics of "Vampire Valentine – Broken Sins"
A broken man I was today
A broken man like yesterday
All of my feelings swept away
I’ll hope and pray like yesterday
That all these feelings go away
all of my feelings swept away
while all the thoughts start to decay
ill hope and pray like yesterday
that all these feelings go away
A broken man I was today
A broken man like yesterday
All of my feelings swept away
While all the thoughts start to decay
I’ll hope and pray like yesterday
That all my feelings go away
I’ll hope and pray like yesterday
A Broken man I shall remain
A broken man I am today
A broken man like yesterday
A broken man I shall remain
A broken man like yesterday
