Asteroid Lily escapes reality
Asteroid Lily are back, and the intro alone draws me straight into the song with its wobbly synths. What strikes you straight away is that the vocals are incredibly bright and form a stark contrast to the rest of the sound, which overall leans more towards lighter electro pop.
Lyrically, the song describes an escape from reality using beautiful metaphors and, at times, direct statements. This lends the track a somewhat melancholic tone, fitting with lines such as “drawn to melancholy”. However, the fact that the tone of the vocals is, by comparison, rather cheerful does leave me feeling a little confused.
Personally, I found the previous single “You & I” to be stronger, but this track from the album “Synth & Sparkle” definitely has its own charm. I particularly like the handmade music video and would like to give it a special mention here. I’m really curious to see which direction Asteroid Lily from England will take in the future.

Lyrics of "Asteroid Lily – Where The Birds Fly"
I’ve lived a thousand life times
Looking back they were filled with sunshine
Which can’t be true, a woman like me
Has always been blue, drawn to melancholy
But I, I would go where the birds fly
Way up high, in the sky where all words die
Looking down at the world below
But never going near
I’d like to live in a daydream
In a sweet and predictable daydream
But it would seem, a woman like me
Is drawn to the extreme, the sad and silly
Would I like to go where the birds fly
Way up high in the sky where all words die
Looking down at the world below
But never going near
I, I would fly so high
Way up in the sky
Way up in the sky
I’ve won a thousand battles
And I wish at the very beginning
Someone had said “you’ll feel like you loose
But it’s all in your head, cos you’re drawn to the blues”
Yes I, I would go where the birds fly
Way up high in the sky where all words die
Looking down at the world below
But never going near
Near enough to hear
What’s going on
No I would just fly on
No I would just fly on
