Planets, stars and the inability to let go
Coming out of the land of fish and chips, here is another fine electro pop / synth pop track that I liked straight away and is extremely catchy. "You & I" by Asteroid Lily is a beautifully melancholic song about the painful inability to let go, masterfully wrapped in the imagery of a cosmic escape.
The perfectly chosen mid-tempo pace carries the mood of the track ideally. New sounds and effects flare up every now and then, keeping the song exciting throughout. I am particularly fond of the beautiful, atmospheric space-age sounds. They blend perfectly with Jo's vocals, which I fell in love with instantly. They are wonderfully clear and emotionally charged.
The track thrives on the emotional tug-of-war between grand dreams of distant galaxies and the simple reality of a car journey together, as the lyrics put it so perfectly with the line "had a plan for every planet and star, but we only got into my car". With a vulnerable mix of the fear of loss and defiant romance, Asteroid Lily capture the bittersweet essence of a love that simply seems too big for this world. An absolutely brilliant track.

Lyrics of "Asteroid Lily – You & I"
You and I
(You and I, you and I)
Until we learn how to say goodbye
(You and I)
I’ll never learn how to say goodbye
(You and I)
So don’t you dare even make me try
(You and I, You and I)
You would just throw me a look and a smile
(You and I)
I’ll never know how to say goodbye
(How could I)
When you made everything worth while
We took a rocket to space,
and we looked down at the earth,
and we saw her face
We were gonna fly so far,
had a plan for every planet and star,
but we only got into my car
(You and I, you and I)
With you I’d know how to paint the sky
(You and I)
Always true, you said you’d never lie
(You and I)
Said I would never have to say goodbye
(You and I, you and I)
Can never forget the way that you cried
(You and I)
You showed me all of the ways I could fly
(You and I)
No you will never ever hear me say goodbye
We took a rocket to space,
and we looked down at the earth,
and we saw her face
We were gonna fly so far,
had a plan for every planet and star,
but we only got into my car
Mmmm, we took a rocket to space
and we looked down at the earth and saw her face
and I swear she smiled, and I swear she smiled
We took a rocket to space
and we looked down at the earth
and we saw her face
We were gonna fly so far,
had a plan for every planet and star,
but we only got into my car
Mmmm, we took a rocket to space
and we looked down at the earth and saw her face
and I swear she smiled, and I swear she smiled
