My jour­ney to “Holy Water” begins with an epic piano intro that imme­di­ately exudes a deep goth vibe. The song moves con­fid­ently in the mid-tempo range and wins me over with its dis­tinctly mod­ern sound. I find it par­tic­u­larly excit­ing that Czarina adds an inter­est­ing new facet to her oth­er­wise rather strict style here, without com­prom­ising her son­ic DNA.

Musically, the single is an abso­lutely suc­cess­ful blend of dark wave, synth pop and an almost eso­ter­ic sound that per­fectly under­scores the lyr­ic­al return to one’s own power. The chor­us lines “Splash me with holy water / Set me on fire” are cel­eb­rated like a man­tra, so they inev­it­ably stick in my head. Fittingly, the fant­ast­ic­ally pro­duced music video is, in typ­ic­al Czarina fash­ion, full of mys­ti­cism and epic imagery, includ­ing a burn­ing sword and a dragon, an audi­ovisu­al exper­i­ence that really sticks with you.
