Ironic Sweden had me hooked straight away with ‘Walk With Angels’. The song impresses with a beau­ti­ful, rich sound that has real depth. It is pre­cisely this sound that shares the space with vocals that I took an instant lik­ing to. They lend the cool, elec­tron­ic found­a­tion an incred­ibly cosy warmth. Thanks to dynam­ic drops and clev­erly placed bridges, the track remains grip­ping from start to finish.

Thematically, it’s all about farewells, tran­si­ence and the gentle trans­ition to the after­life. The lyr­ics explore the peace­ful accept­ance of life’s end through power­ful imagery drawn from myth­o­logy and famil­i­ar motifs such as the ‘Deadman’s Hand’ or Charon, the fer­ry­man. In keep­ing with this lyr­ic­al frame­work, the over­all mood is notice­ably mel­an­chol­ic, both son­ic­ally and in the vocals. The res­ult is a cleanly pro­duced track that feels extremely groun­ded and per­fectly illus­trates exactly how mod­ern synth-pop should sound today.

The only cri­ti­cism, for which I must, with a heavy heart, remove one point from the over­all score, is that the gen­er­ic AI-gen­er­ated cov­er art­work unfor­tu­nately con­veys an apo­ca­lypse rather than a peace­ful farewell. My per­son­al plea to Ironic Sweden: please stop with this AI rub­bish. Musically, you really don’t need it.
