Korfian – Melodramatic

When silence is frightening: Korfian and the art of electronic catharsis

Korfian - Melodramatic (Cover artwork)The sound of Korfian’s new single ‘Melodramatic’ is fantastically electronic, as if Björk’s Greek cousin were at the controls, so to speak. Musically, the track operates in the realm of electro (with a touch of synth pop?) and comes across as pleasantly experimental, but to my taste it stays firmly on track sonically, without drifting into anything too complex or wild. It’s a very distinctive electro sound that doesn’t quite fit into the classic synth-pop mould stylistically. Whether you find the whole thing unwieldy or catchy probably depends on your own listening habits.

In any case, the song completely won me over from the very first listen. Lyrically, Korfian takes aim at staged suffering and toxic dynamics with his usual precision. A cathartic act of liberation, wrapped in an expressive electronic guise.

Lyrics of "Korfian – Melodramatic"

You call my name when silence scares you
I held your weight for years
While you performed your pain
And every single word out of your mouth
Sounds Melodramatic

Now what am I to you
Maybe your licensed fool
I’m here to tell the truth
In ways you can receive it
They told me you need help
But this is not my job
I don’t get paid enough
Haha haha ha-ha

I serve medieval style
You serve medieval mind
My bells resound your act
Your lifelong staged attack
You fed me guilt for bread
Oh, what an act of care
Your every sacrifice
Comes with a hidden price

You call my name when silence scares you
I held your weight for years
While you performed your pain
And every single word out of your mouth
Sounds Melodramatic

I stood beside your throne to listen
All that you had to say
And swallowed your complaints
This never ending act makes everything sound
So fabricated

Now what am I to you
Maybe your licensed fool
I’m here to tell the truth
In ways you can receive it
They told me you need help
But this is not my job
I don’t get paid enough
Haha haha ha-ha
