Soft Faith – Evil

With their new song "Evil", the US band "Soft Faith" once again presents us with an impress­ive sound com­pos­i­tion. After their pre­vi­ous hit "Never Not Thinking Of You" had exceeded my expect­a­tions, I was ini­tially scep­tic­al when the band released two more songs that moved in the dir­ec­tion of com­mer­cial pop music. These were too far away for my taste from the unique style that I appre­ci­ate so much about "Soft Faith". All the more pleased I am now that they are return­ing to their roots with "Evil" and delight­ing us again with crisp, mel­an­chol­ic and dark sounds.

Although the young duo already has an impress­ive music­al his­tory in vari­ous oth­er pro­jects, it seems as if they are still devel­op­ing and search­ing their way even as "Soft Faith". For me per­son­ally, I hope they will con­tin­ue to pur­sue and expand the dark synth-pop dir­ec­tion they are tak­ing with this song. "Evil" reminds me of the dark sounds of bands like Depeche Mode and man­ages to cre­ate a mys­ter­i­ous and at the same time intox­ic­at­ing mood.

The song impresses with its suc­cess­ful com­bin­a­tion of dark wave and synth pop ele­ments. The melod­ies are cap­tiv­at­ing and com­bine per­fectly with the elec­tron­ic sounds, which cre­ate a dark atmo­sphere. The singer's voice blends har­mo­ni­ously into the sound pic­ture and gives the song an addi­tion­al intensity.
