Synth pop gem with Depeche Mode flair
With a fine static noise worthy of an opener of a Depeche Mode album, Starsign's ‘Shiver’ catapults me directly into a world full of melancholic synth pop sounds. The German act once again proves its flair for atmospheric electronics.
From the very beginning, the song embraces me with a gentle, slightly wistful mood that never lets go. I feel completely enveloped by the empathy that flows from every note. As I listen to the track, it surprises me again and again with new sounds and effects that take me on a sonic journey of discovery.
I find the change in the chorus from solo to duet particularly fascinating. This unexpected twist gives the song an additional layer of complexity that thrills me every time. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little more restraint with the vocal effects, in order to emphasise the natural emotion of the voices even more.
