Starsign – Shiver

Synth pop gem with Depeche Mode flair

With a fine stat­ic noise worthy of an open­er of a Depeche Mode album, Starsign's ‘Shiver’ cata­pults me dir­ectly into a world full of mel­an­chol­ic synth pop sounds. The German act once again proves its flair for atmo­spher­ic electronics.

From the very begin­ning, the song embraces me with a gentle, slightly wist­ful mood that nev­er lets go. I feel com­pletely envel­oped by the empathy that flows from every note. As I listen to the track, it sur­prises me again and again with new sounds and effects that take me on a son­ic jour­ney of discovery.

I find the change in the chor­us from solo to duet par­tic­u­larly fas­cin­at­ing. This unex­pec­ted twist gives the song an addi­tion­al lay­er of com­plex­ity that thrills me every time. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little more restraint with the vocal effects, in order to emphas­ise the nat­ur­al emo­tion of the voices even more.
