Masterful reinterpretation – Thessla covers "The Things You Said"
As a loyal Depeche Mode fan and lover of sophisticated cover versions, I always approach reinterpretations with great scepticism. Simply playing along isn’t enough to make an impression on me.
However, this new version of this wonderful ballad from 1987 proves that there is another way. Brilliantly reimagined, Thessla, in collaboration with the singer MQNQ, succeeds here in creating a fascinating sonic aesthetic that lends synth pop an unexpected depth. The atmospheric richness captures the melancholic spirit of the original and confidently brings it into the present day. On my website, The (Al)Most Complete Depeche Mode Covers & Tributes Archive, this successful track will, of course, take its rightful place in the next update.
