Nostalgia with a dark twist

With “Dancing (With What’s Left)”, the Finnish act Detalji deliv­ers a dreamy track with a dark edge that draws me in from the very first moment. The ana­logue synth sounds carry a palp­able sense of nos­tal­gia, whilst the vocals seem almost breathy and exude that typ­ic­al witch house vibe. I find it inter­est­ing that the fairly beat-driv­en sound nev­er­the­less carves out a path all of its own.

Lyrically, the track deals with the pain of loss and car­ry­ing on dan­cing des­pite a ‘ghost in the chest’, which lends the music an extra emo­tion­al lay­er. The vocal ‘La la laa-a-a‑a’ adds a lovely, naive 80s pop touch. Fans of Ghost Cop are sure to love this sound.
