Dangerous passion: "Sofia" leads you into the dark depths of the night.
The first few seconds of "Sofia" take me back to the dark days of the 80s, when the Gothic sound with its atmospheric soundscapes ruled the dark clubs. The song by Dance My Darling goes exactly in this direction, and the intro with its sweeping synthesizers and deep bass immediately creates a feeling of mysterious oppression. The electronic pulse that runs through the song is strongly reminiscent of bands like "Diary Of Dreams", while the drumming seems a bit more classical and less synthetic – a successful mix that gives the piece additional depth.
The vocals are particularly noteworthy for me. They skilfully move between a dark, almost threatening depth and angelic, ethereal sounds that perfectly convey the mood of the song. This contrast captures the essence of the lyrics: the love story in "Sofia" is anything but romantic, but rather a dance on the fine line between desire and destruction. Lines like "Black wings of love, but this love is wrong" leave no doubt that a forbidden, painful passion is at the centre of this story.
Musically, "Sofia" impresses with its skilful structure. The electronic elements are present without appearing overloaded, leaving enough space for the vocals and lyrics. The parallels to "Diorama" and "Deine Lakaien" cannot be overheard, but Dance My Darling manages to create its own hypnotic sound world that draws the listener deep into the dark night.

Lyrics of "Dance My Darling"
Protected from glare
By Avalon mist
They danced like a child
And laughed like murderers
Touched like leaves
Naked breasts of two nymphs
In the sinister valley
In the flow of bliss
Sofia
Queen of the night
Sofia
Leaves this world
Black wings of love
But this love is wrong
They are destined to fall
When the roses wither
This butterfly song
(is) for one kiss of fever
Old spell kills
Those who dare to fondness
In that sinister valley
In the flow of bliss
