Into The Dark: Eklat's homage to The Cure with bittersweet melancholy
When I first heard ‘Into The Dark’ by Eklat, I was immediately reminded of the dark wave classic ‘A Forest’ by The Cure. The similarity to the sound of the British cult band is unmistakable, and that gives the song a nostalgic, almost familiar touch. The intro is atmospherically dense and carried by a melancholy mood.
The synthesizers in the song are subtle, which I perceive as restrained on the one hand, but also as fitting, as it draws the focus to the deeply sad mood. Personally, I would have liked to have heard somewhat stronger synth lines to bring the harmonies even more to the fore. Nevertheless, ‘Into The Dark’ manages to present a balanced mix of dark wave and synth pop that works surprisingly well for me.
What particularly moved me is the lyrical content. Lines like "Faces passing by / Like a ship in the night" and "Disconnected hearts / When our love grows cold" paint a picture of loss and alienation. The words convey a vulnerability that blends perfectly with the musical melancholy.

Lyrics of "Eklat – Into The Dark"
Faces passing by
Like a ship in the night
But in your eyes
I look in the dark
Disconnected hearts
When our love grows cold
And it’s all gone
I don’t know what I can say
You don’t want me to stay
so I go yeah I go
