Between man and machine: When artificial intelligence replaces your own halo
J:Dead’s new track ‘Halo’ is a dark, industrial-driven song that delves deeply into artificial intelligence and how technology insidiously influences our everyday decisions.
I find it extremely difficult to draw comparisons here, as J:dead has quite simply created a musical DNA all of its own. The sound has a wonderfully bleak and dystopian feel, yet manages effortlessly to remain gripping throughout its impressive length of almost six minutes.
Lyrically, the line “The only thing that separates us, is we’re brittle” sums it up perfectly: the bittersweet reminder that our flaws and fragility are what make us human, whilst algorithms seek to strip us of this autonomy. An absolutely powerful, profound piece of music.

Lyrics of "J:Dead – Halo"
Fickle lives that, bare no right to bask in what you can't see
The spoils of man won't fair in time but they’ll wither away, and A.I will see
Stupid minds that, lack the want to, educate a child's dream
Their brains will rot and fall of gods to, take silence away and fill it with streams
File down my ring, and feed it to the stars that call your name, cuz your halo’s out of place…
Altered hands that move in sync with hydraulic codings
They push and shove unwanted impulses i want to make, mistakes are they key
To feel in touch with life is what you want from your society
Machines won’t let you burn your soul but they’ll hide them away, and use gasoline
File down my ring, and feed it to the stars that call your name, cuz your halo’s out of place…
The only thing that separates us, is we’re brittle…
The only thing that separates us, is your Halo
