Emotional fallout on the dancefloor
Sonically, I’d place LAHO’s new release somewhere at the intersection of Apoptygma Berzerk and Synapsyche. The track opens with a lively bassline that exudes that typical early 2000s future pop sound and builds perfectly for dancing.
I’m particularly taken with the opening vocals: they remind me straight away of Tom Shear from Assemblage 23 – soft yet commanding, with plenty of power behind them. Lyrically, the Finnish artist takes us into a scenario of emotional fallout and numbness, where by the end you feel nothing at all, whilst the world around you lies in ruins.
The fact that restrained scream parts pop up now and then is just typical Synapsyche. Personally, I’m not usually a big fan of overly aggressive sounds and vocal shouting, but on “The Great Collapse” the balance is spot on. It all feels very well-rounded to me and fits seamlessly into the industrial framework.

Lyrics of "LAHO – The Great Collapse"
It was the greatest collapse
that the world had ever seen
Right before your eyes
Didn’t see a thing
Just like a complete relapse
Back in the square one once again
And of all those lies you fed me
I believed nothing
Nothing
Nothing at all
It was the greatest collapse
It was the greatest collapse
You brought the whole world to its knees
And now when all comes crashing down
I feel nothing
Nothing
Nothing at all
It was the greatest collapse
We rebuild these walls
Just for them to fall again
With every step we go backwards
Until it’s time to crashland again
I don’t know anything
I can’t feel anything
Anything
