Naive melancholy in an electro pop guise
When I first heard "Little Bizarre" by Luke Pacuk, I was immediately drawn to this mixture of naivety and melancholy. The song is light, almost unob It's refreshing how clearly Pacuk's voice is carried by the relatively simple but atmospheric synthesiser sounds.
What caught my eye – or rather my ear – is the reference to the rather smaller 80s pop acts like "ABC" or "Icehouse". The track has this certain nostalgic quality that immediately reminds me of the iconic melodies and harmonies of that time. This is not a simple copy, but you can clearly see that Luke Pacuk has incorporated musical influences from this era here.
Technically, there is nothing to criticise about "Little Bizarre". The song is solidly produced without getting lost in complicated structures. This may seem too "shallow" for some, but I think that it is precisely this simplicity that gives the track a charming lightness. The only criticism I have is that the song would have benefited from a bit more independent sounds and a bit more dynamics.
