A touch of 90s synth pop melancholy
When I first heard "Contact" by Vases, I immediately felt transported back to the 90s of synthpop. The song has a kind of nostalgic lightness that reminds me of acts like "Delay", "Statemachine", "Cause & Effect" or "Kiethevez". I particularly like the crisp intro. As a synth pop fan, it draws me into the track immediately and makes me look forward to what's coming.
What particularly impresses me is the soothing yet melancholy voice. It perfectly matches the gentle electronic sounds and gives the song a relaxed, almost dream-like atmosphere. The subtle guitars are also well used. They blend harmoniously with the rest of the arrangement without disturbing the electronic character. For me personally, this is an absolute plus, because the balance between electronics and guitars is often difficult to find – but here it is perfectly achieved.
The artist describes the song as an examination of the "monsters in our heads", and I can easily relate to this introspective, almost contemplative mood. "Contact" has a fine melancholy to it, without being oppressive – exactly the right soundtrack for quiet moments or when you want to escape into your thoughts.
