Vioflesh – Suffocating

Oppressive dark wave from the scars of the unknown

With “Suffocating”, Chilean band Vioflesh present a con­sist­ently midtempo synth pop track, under­pinned by strong, mel­an­chol­ic dark wave influ­ences. The lyr­ics cap­ture the oppress­ive fear that suf­foc­ates us deep with­in the darkness.

The vocals, in par­tic­u­lar, once again lean towards that haunt­ing witch house vibe, which I also really enjoyed on the track “The Spell”. I do have one small com­ment, how­ever: in my opin­ion, the vocals shouldn’t be strained or tech­nic­ally altered any fur­ther in future, as oth­er­wise the warm, human aspect will be lost entirely. That aside, the bridge in the middle is def­in­itely worth men­tion­ing, as it beau­ti­fully brings out the atmo­spher­ic char­ac­ter of the track and allows Vioflesh to fully show­case their emo­tion­al directness.
