Johnnie Business delivers the perfect retro sound

With a cool, clas­sic synth and drum setup, British artist Johnnie Business con­jures up a won­der­fully fresh sound with a genu­ine 80s vibe. I’m impressed by how he uses machines like the Linn Drum, the TR707 or the Juno 106 to cre­ate an atmo­sphere that really grabs you straight away. The tempo of “Profit & Loss” is prop­erly up-tempo and, for me per­son­ally, really makes me want to move.

Anyone who likes bands such as A Flock Of Seagulls or The Human League is sure to be delighted by this synth pop, which to me sounds slightly naive. Lyrically, Johnnie Business strikes a more ser­i­ous note and searches for “Salvation” in the dark­ness, yet the sound remains pleas­antly light-footed. For me, this song is an abso­lute win­ner that per­fectly mas­ters the bal­an­cing act between nos­tal­gic charm and mod­ern energy. Anyone who doesn’t dance to this has prob­ably lost the profit long ago.
