Sad Devotion and the search for connection in ‘Out There’
Sometimes a song manages to combine nostalgia and emotions so perfectly that it hits me right in the heart – that's exactly what Sad Devotion does with ‘Out There’. The track is a rousing synth pop anthem that feels deeply rooted in the 80s yet remains modern. Tobias Isaksson proves once again why I was already thrilled by ‘Where Are You (Feat. Azure Blue)’ a year and a half ago. It's just great to hear new music from him again.
The clear, almost fragile voice carries the song's underlying melancholy, while the driving uptempo beat ensures that I can't sit still. Especially the refrain – with the haunting question "Is there anybody out there?" – is stuck in my head. To me, the song is about loneliness and, at the same time, about the hope that we are connected despite everything. It's exactly this mixture of melancholy and euphoria that makes ‘Out There’ so special.

Lyrics of "Sad Devotion – Out There"
Here, in the night
A have a place to call my own
The loneliness
I find myself
To play your voicemail on repeat
To hear your voice
Calling out my name
And say that it will be okay
Suddenly I see
I'm lonely but I'm free
I'm silent but I screaming
Out your name
We'll see another day
Is there anybody out there?
The end is far away
It all will be okay
If there's anybody out there
Is there anybody out there?
Here, in the night
I have a chance to realise
That in our minds
And in our dreams
We're in this thing together
I think
We'll see another day
Is there anybody out there?
No matter what you say
The night will fade away
If there's anybody out there
Is there anybody out there?
Is there anybody out there?
We'll see another day
Is there anybody out there?
The end is far away
It all will be okay
If there's anybody out there
Is there anybody out there?
