Soulful synth pop: iammilan asks ‘Why Would I Lie To You?’

Milan impresses with his new track ‘Why Would I Lie To You?’. For me, this track is a suc­cess­ful blend of light­ness, catchi­ness and a touch of nos­tal­gia, which imme­di­ately reminds me of the great elec­tro pop icons like Erasure and Pet Shop Boys. The soft sound is pleas­antly reserved, but still power­ful enough to get stuck in my head.

What appeals to me most is the mood of the song: hope­ful and relaxed, without being bor­ing. The melody is flow­ing and har­mo­ni­ous, which makes the song a real earworm.

The lyr­ics of ‘Why Would I Lie To You?’ add an inter­est­ing lyr­ic­al lay­er. Lines like "You're look­ing for a sign to fol­low / But sadly, they're few" give the song a reflect­ive touch that makes me won­der. Milan man­ages to put per­son­al insec­ur­it­ies and emo­tion­al con­flicts into words without los­ing the light­ness of the track. Funnily enough, the vocal ton­al­ity reminds me of the early works of ‘Army Of Lovers’.

I already learned to appre­ci­ate iam­m­il­an in 2022 through his cov­er ver­sion of Rockwell's ‘Somebody's Watching Me’ – back then, he proved how cre­at­ively he can rein­ter­pret clas­sics. With this ori­gin­al piece, he once again show­cases his tal­ent and proves that he can also impress as a songwriter.
