Pleasantly Fucked Up: How "Fate" Effortlessly Dances Between Genres
Listening to "Fate" by the American band Ghost Fetish, I'm immediately struck by how effortlessly the sound dances between synth pop and dark wave. It's clear in every second that this project embraces all facets of both genres. To me, the vocals are most reminiscent of The Cure or even the Sisters of Mercy – they sound pleasantly jaded yet incredibly insightful.
While the guitars remain subtly in the background of the arrangement, the classic synthesizer sounds and the deep, resonant drums are allowed to shine through beautifully. To me, the result is a consistent sense of resignation and condemnation, yet despite this dark undertone, the song exudes a pleasant, organic warmth.
