Bittersweet synthwave with a melancholic undertone
"Carry On" by CATBEAR immediately grabbed me – the whispering voices in the intro set the right atmosphere, especially now in the creepy month of October. But what makes this song special is that it's not limited to this time of year.
The synthwave bassline that follows is a real bombshell – massive, crisp and unstoppable. For me, it's reminiscent of the style of my favourite synthwave artist "Nina" – that comparison came to mind immediately. It's exactly this kind of deep, powerful synth sound that drives the track forward and gives it an unmistakable direction.
Vocally, the song moves on the bittersweet romantic level. The vocals are soft and almost vulnerable, which fits perfectly with the melancholy mood. And yet there is always a hint of hope that prevents the track from appearing too gloomy. The tempo remains moderate – definitely not a ballad, but not a driving uptempo track either. I particularly like this balance because it makes the song both emotionally deep and accessible.
For all we've done and what we've lost before, we will carry on
Lyrics of "Carry On" performed by "CATBEAR"
The lyrics pick up on exactly this mood: they speak of losses, injuries and the constant struggle to move on despite everything that seems to stand in the way. Especially the line "For all we've done and what we've lost before, we will carry on" sums up the core of the song for me – it's about the strength we find to move forward despite everything.

Lyrics of "CATBEAR – Carry On"
(spoken)
This has all happened already
This has all been before
And so we find a justification
So we can believe in ‘this time’ once more
Another touch
Another hurt
Another enemy
Another dust myself off
Another cross
Another wound
Another memory
Is enough, is enough
Another house
Another haunt
Another elegy
Another deep breath out
Another roll
Another cut
Another remedy
Another could’ve done more
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We will carry on
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We must carry on
Another rift
Another war
Another destiny
Another direction
Another break
Another block
Another penalty
That’s not all, that’s not all we’ve got
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We will carry on
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We must carry on
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We will carry on
For all we’ve done and what we’ve lost before
We must carry on
