When the very first notes immediately bring to mind the iconic British band
It’s impossible to miss the fact that Doubtful Hope from the USA is, without a doubt, a huge Depeche Mode fan. Alongside the typical musical references to the iconic British band, which feature throughout almost the entire self-titled album, including a cover version of ‘Behind The Wheel’, the title track also captures this very aesthetic.
To me, even the very first notes sound strikingly like Depeche Mode or a top-class tribute band. That’s precisely why I like the track straight away and without a doubt. I’m particularly taken with the vocal performance: the vocals blend extremely soulfully into the instrumental framework whilst remaining clearly articulated throughout. Anyone who loves classic synth pop knows exactly what to expect here. For die-hard fans of the British pioneers and devotees of the genre, this track is an absolute must-listen.
