Synth pop with epic heroism
"When Death is Done" by Red Cell grabbed me immediately. The song opens with an enormous power that creates a lot of pressure right from the start – there are no long introductions or gimmicks here, just a direct forward thrust. This powerful opening remains noticeable throughout the entire song and continues into the ultra-strong chorus, which for me is the absolute centrepiece of the track. What I find particularly fascinating about the chorus is its subtle simplicity. It is very straightforward in its structure, and that reminds me of various timeless classics of the 80s, without just relying on retro nostalgia.
Of course, the pop factor of "When Death is Done" is unmistakably strong, I can't deny that. There are melodies and harmonies here that immediately catch the ear and have an accessibility that many might call commercial. But for me, Red Cell has a very unique sonic signature despite the catchy pop impact, which makes the song stand out from the crowd. This mixture of catchy pop and a clear, epic synth pop structure makes "When Death is Done" an anthem for me, one that deserves a place not only in clubs but also in personal playlists.
