Mesh – Automation Baby

Mesh - Automation Baby

The next 'perfect' album?

Mesh always moves somewhere between Synth Pop and Electrorock. This balancing act makes this album exciting and varied. Can the successor of the album 'A Perfect Solution' hold a candle or even exceed? I am curious, though the new visual aesthetics irritates me a little.

Far away from being disappointed

The first single 'Born To Lie' reveals itself as a phenomenal club hit. This can rekindle the hope of a great album. And indeed after the first listening I'm far away from being disappointed.

The opener 'Just Leave Us Alone' is a 'Mesh' classic from the beginning. A gentle beginning followed by a catchy beat and a pleasant chorus. Absolutely fresh and inspiring is the minimal dubstep sounding bridge in the song.

Further the up-tempo, title given song 'Automation Bady' is awesome as well and pushes you to dance. For the bridge in 'Automation Baby' they used some modified 80s 8‑bit sounds and they fit perfectly in the song. Everything sounds new and fresh, but also familar.

Verdict

The overall rating could be much higher (almost 4.2 stars) if 'Mesh' would have get rid of those two instrumental interludes 'AB Incidental No. 1' and 'AB Incidental No. 2'. For me these are unnecessary gap fillers. The lyric line that has stayed with me most remembered is: "I'm just so ordinary, that makes you ordinary too" from the awesome song 'Flawless'. But this album is anything but ordinary, rather a 100% buy recommendation.
