Dark pop with a future pop flair: Aria Dragonheart's ‘Singularity’ reviewed
As soon as Aria Dragonheart's ‘Singularity’ started, I felt like I'd been catapulted back in time – somewhere between dark club nights and the glory days of 2000s future pop. For me, the track is a prime example of catchy dark pop that sounds both nostalgic and contemporary. I especially like the alternative vibe that runs through the song and fits perfectly into my sound scheme.
What immediately caught my ear were the synthesizers. They have this slightly future pop technical touch that reminds me strongly of old scene greats without sounding outdated. The arrangement is very classically structured overall, which works excellently for me – no pretentious experiment, but a song that knows where it wants to go.
Aria Dragonheart's vocals are a real highlight for me. Her voice is not only strong, but also perfectly embedded in the mix. Nothing seems too dominant, everything flows – at least most of the time. In a few places, I had the impression that too many elements were colliding at once. On my headphones, it almost sounded as if this track was playing in another window at the same time – which was quite distracting for a moment.
Nevertheless, the positives clearly outweigh the negatives for me: ‘Singularity’ is atmospherically dense, has that certain dark glamour and offers exactly what I want from a modern dark pop song.
