Holy Death Temple – Nobody Loved You

A murder, a hook, a fantastic pop song

Holy Death Temple - Nobody Loved YouWith a nostalgic sound, naïve melodies and irony right down to the very last line, that’s how “Nobody Loved You” by Holy Death Temple presents itself. The catchy sound had me hooked straight away, and after just about 20 seconds I knew: this is a fantastic song! When the band talks about a strong Erasure influence, I can only confirm that. Nevertheless, Holy Death Temple bring enough of their own DNA to the table to avoid sounding like a mere cover band.

Lyrically, the song deals with a murder and the schadenfreude directed at the victim rather than the perpetrator. I was particularly amused by the line “Jesus could have saved you but he chose not to / When it wasn’t Cupid’s arrow that shot you” in the bridge, this is where the song’s irony is taken to the extreme. A bitterly wicked, yet magnificently crafted pop song.

Lyrics of "Holy Death Temple – Nobody Loved You"

You were just a baby left on your own
Emptiness was all you’d ever known
You loved talking tough and never backing down
It filled your cup and bought you your last round
What went through your head when you choked on your pride
The true tragedy is not that you died

Nobody loved you
Nobody loved you
Nobody ought to
And it wasn’t cupid’s arrow that shot you

You loved how you picked the perfect wife
Knew her place was pain and sacrifice
Money and power was the reward
Wanted more in life so she took yours

Nobody loved you
Nobody loved you
Nobody thought to
And it wasn’t cupid’s arrow that shot you

Made your hell from the fire inside
Played in flames that burned you alive
What went through your head when you lost your mind
The true tragedy is the world decides
Why you died
And never wonders why…

Nobody loved you
Nobody loved you
Nobody wants to
Nobody loved you
Jesus could have saved you but he chose not to
When it wasn’t cupid’s arrow that shot you
And it wasn’t cupid’s arrow that shot you
