J:Dead – Draws My Blood

Between aggressive industrial intensity and atmospheric depth

J:Dead - Draws My BloodI’ve developed a real "love-hate relationship" with J:Dead. There are always the odd tracks that lean too heavily towards metal and are simply too aggressive for my taste. Yet I find good industrial sound, the sort that really packs a punch with plenty of electronics, absolutely brilliant. So with J:Dead, it’s always a bit of a balancing act as to whether a song grabs me or not. With “Draws My Blood”, however, I’m certain: I love this track!

Although the sound is heavily influenced by industrial, the skilful use of synthesisers makes the whole thing sound incredibly exciting and varied. Jay Taylor doesn’t descend into the worst kind of screaming or shouting vocals here, even though the singing carries a palpable sense of urgency. Lyrically, this fits perfectly, as the song explores, in an almost eerie way, the process by which we gradually lose our essence through the influence of others, until the ‘darkness’ catches up with us. Anyone who appreciates heavier music is sure to enjoy J:Dead’s take on this track. A successful track that strikes just the right balance between raw energy and atmospheric darkness.

Lyrics of "J:Dead – Draws My Blood"

And I know there's more to take, cuz this is all on show
I hunger for the life that got away
And I know I have to leave, but there's one thing you know
I’ll never drain the life blood in your veins
And I know I have to leave, just wait and listen for, the darkness calling us

There’s a shadow calling us, there's a presence in your home
Did you see it follow us, did you hear it breathing cold
I feel it creeping up, I feel it when it draws my blood

And I know there's more to take, cuz this is all I know
My mind is taking parts of me away
And I know I’ll never leave, this body's weakened for, the darkness dragging us

There’s a shadow calling us, there's a presence in your home
Did you see it follow us, did you hear it breathing cold
I feel it creeping up, I feel it when it draws my blood

When it draws my blood

Feel it again, and it comes with the rain, let it draw my blood…

There’s a shadow calling us, there's a presence in your home
Did you see it follow us, did you hear it breathing cold
I feel it creeping up, I feel it when it draws my blood…

Feel it again, and it comes with the rain, let it draw my blood…
